JOSIE

My boyfriend and I are just sitting around, enjoying a lazy night, when the smell of sulfur fills the air. Then, before I can blink, there’s a strange man standing in my living room. A strange, sexy as sin man. Dark hair, dark eyes, and a sinister smile.

“Brad Bennett,” he says. “I’ve come to collect.”

Brad–my boyfriend–is silent so I speak up. “Collect what? Who ARE you? And how did you just poof in here?”

The man turns his gaze on me. “Ah, such a lovely, feisty example of a female. Perhaps you and I will make a deal one day. For now, I’m here to collect Brad’s soul.”

Brad turns into a sniveling, begging mess. “Please, please. I made a mistake, I take it back. Please, take anything else but my soul.”

Soul? What?

The man speaks. “It must be something of equal value, Brad. What else do you have to offer?”

Brad hesitates and looks at me. The man follows his gaze and his smile spreads. “Deal. I’ll take her instead.”

What?!?

Before I can ask what the fuck is going on, I feel myself whisked away. Overcome with dizziness, I close my eyes. When I open them again, I find myself in an opulent bedroom with the mysterious stranger. What the hell? I ask.

He smirks. It is indeed Hell. Welcome, Josie. I hope you like your accommodations. And now, let’s see what it is you have to offer besides your soul.

We have sex. I resist at first, but soon find myself moaning for him. He does wonderfully wicked things to my body. And as I’m lying on the bed, trying to slow my racing heart, I find out just what has really happened.

It seems Brad made a deal with the devil and traded his soul to get out of a serious gambling debt. Then he didn’t want to pay up and, when he hesitated and looked at me, Lucifer–yes, the real Lucifer–took that as a sign that I belonged to Brad and was a suitable exchange.

I beg and plead, I get angry and threaten, but nothing sways the devil. A bargain is a bargain, he tells me, even though I had no say so. My days are filled with chores he gives me. My nights are filled with exquisite pleasure. And soon, I find myself falling in love with my captor.

Do I even want to leave? Would I even go home if given the chance? Or would I stay in hell forever to be the devil’s playmate?

LUCIFER

A bargain is a bargain and Lord knows–ha ha–that I’ve made more than my share of them. This one seemed like a straightforward one–Brad’s soul in exchange for the money to get out of a gambling debt. Except Brad turns into a sniveling coward and begs me to take anything else.

I tell him it must be something of equal value, and his eyes dart to the lovely female standing at his side. It takes me less than three seconds to accept the trade and whisk her to hell with me.

I bed her at once, and find more pleasure than I thought in the act. Josie may look like an innocent, beguiling woman but she’s full of fire and passion. When I tell her what her future is, she cries for only moments before she’s angry. I much prefer her to be angry. Spice adds something vital to sex, don’t you think?

I give her chores to do, and she does them while grumbling. I spend the nights with her, and drive her to peak after moaning peak. She does the same for me. Josie has opened wells in me I never knew I had.

Soon, I find myself thinking of her more than I should, spending time with her when I should be doing other things. And feeling guilty for taking her when I know I had no right. Is this love?

I know I must send her back. I can’t keep her here, not when I feel so much for her and want her to be happy. And isn’t it funny that I now know the devil does indeed have a heart?

Plot:

CHAPTER ONE Josie

  • It’s just a typical Thursday evening
  • Brad, my boyfriend of six months, and I are just hanging out in my apartment
  • We’re eating pizza and watching movies when all of a sudden, the overwhelming smell of sulfur fills the air
  • Before I can ask where the smell came from, a man suddenly appears in front of us
  • He’s tall, dark, and handsome. I do have to admit that. But he also looks cold and sinister. A shiver runs down my spine as he glances around
  • When he speaks, his voice is a deep, melodious sound. “Brad Bennett,” he says. “I’ve come to collect.”
  • Brad remains silent, just looking at the man,so I speak up. “Collect what? Who ARE you? And how did you just poof in here?”
  • The man turns his gaze on me. “Ah, such a lovely, feisty example of a female. Perhaps you and I will make a deal one day. For now, I’m here to collect Brad’s soul.”
  • Brad turns into a sniveling, begging mess. I mean, so much so that I cringe. “Please, please. I made a mistake, I take it back. Please, take anything else but my soul.”
  • I shake my head, not believing what I’m hearing. Soul? What?
  • The man speaks again, a touch of amusement in his voice. “It must be something of equal value, Brad. What else do you have to offer?”
  • Brad hesitates and looks at me. The man follows his gaze and his smile spreads. “Deal. I’ll take her instead.”
  • What?!?
  • I sputter but before I can speak, the man is standing right in front of me. I shrink back toward Brad, but he steps away from me, leaving me at the mercy of the stranger.

CHAPTER TWO Lucifer

  • I never should have made the bargain with Brad. And yet, when he cuts his eyes to the woman, I can’t help but smile.
  • She may look fragile with her blonde hair, smoke gray eyes, and rose tinted lips, but her anger–and fear–are palpable. She has spirit. I like that
  • I know I shouldn’t, but it doesn’t technically break any rules. After all, her soul is just as valuable as Brad’s. Probably more, if I’m being honest.
  • I banter with her for a moment or two, and her temper, her unwillingness to back down verbally, seals the deal for me
  • When I repeat again, for her benefit, that she’s mine, her eyes go even wider
  • Before she can speak, I take her by the shoulders and work my magic
  • And within seconds, we’re back in Hell
